Review: Bombay Pizza Co. Sugar Land

The Bombay Pizza Co.  in Sugar Land was recommended to me by by Fort Bend Food Blog. After reading their review, I notice I'd passed it by after tutoring a student out in Sugar Land several times.  This past week I finally stopped in to see what this place was all about--and I was very glad that I did!  I also found out after the fact that they had been featured on The Food Network's "The Best Thing I Ever Ate."  These two endorsements definitely made me feel it was worth investigating further.

Their interior is like standard modern pizzeria--wine rack in the corner, Ikea-style lighting--albeit with a semi Bollywood feel--there was a slight hint of curry in the air. Mr. Viral Patel, the owner, was very kind and he suggested I go half & half so I could try two different kinds of their specialty pizza, no extra charge if they're both specialty pizzas.  That sold me. I chose the Gateway of India & Bombay Ranch pizzas. All pizzas are thin crust pizzas, with a seasoning reminds me a little of Naan bread.  Anyhoo, here are your pizza blueprints:

Left Side is Gateway of India, Right Side is Bombay Ranch
Gateway of India:
Tandoori chicken, fresh crab meat, artichoke hearts,
provolone & mozzarella cheeses, on cilantro-mint-chutney
and topped with fresh cilantro

Bombay Ranch:
Grilled chicken, fresh tomatoes, red onions & mozzarella,
on a homemade chili-garlic ranch base, topped with chili-
garlic-ranch and fresh cilantro

The Gateway of India pizza had a green curry essence underlying all the toppings and flavours. It was generously topped with lovely red Tandoori chicken. There were multiple levels of flavour and texture between the crab meat, the chutney, the cilantro, & the artichoke hearts! Wonderful!

Bollywood Spice in Sugar Land!
The Bombay Ranch pizza this was creamy sweet & spicy.  There was a strong chili pepper and garlic flavour in it--almost reminded me of a more bitter Caribbean Jerk seasoning.   The top sauce was like ranch dip mixed with tandoori sauce & Srirachi. A lot of hints of curry and cilantro came through.  A very satisfying pizza to eat.

Of course they have tamer varieties of pizza for the less exotic of palates--like my kids who wanted either plain cheese or Canadian bacon. However if you like Indian cuisine, thin crust pizza & spicy food, you will LOVE Bombay Pizza Company!  This is a place I'd like to put into the rotation every now and again just for the unique fusion of these two great types of food--Indian and Pizza.

Thanks for the shout out! I'm glad you enjoyed Bombay Pizza. It's definitely a different flavor profile.

A friend mentioned to me that, after having tried both locations, she thought the one downtown "had it down" a little better in terms of consistency of the food and efficiency. Might be interesting to compare the two.
